Second part to Perks of Being Wallflower

By the way I forgot my book in my locker so there won't be any quotes.

In the book the Perks of being a wallflower, Charlie is trying to figure out he who really is while writing these letters to an anonymous person. It's very personal letters and it is more like a diary in some way.

Towards the end of the book, he kind of goes off track of finding out who he is. He had this big fight with this girl that he had a thing with and all of his friends who basically taught him everything and how to live on the outside of his life are all mad at him, because he made one stupid mistake. This is when he goes off track of who he really is, unless he really is the person who does this stuff all the time. He would buy weed all the time and he became into this huge druggie that smoked all the time by himself and he had no close friends. Though what I find interesting is that he still manages to read all of the seperate books his teacher gives to him out of school and keep up with them. He is still the same person he was in the beginning but now he has a lot more knowledge of life and being a wallflower.

Talking about how is trying to find his sexuality, like i was talking about in my other response to the beginning of the book, I feel as though that is how is realizing who he is. At first when I started reading this book I was confused if Charlie was a boy or girl, and I was actually almost positive it was a girl by the way he acted in situations and other clues I got. Towards the middle of the book you get that he likes this girl Sam, but then towards the end of the book he is excepting kisses from his homosexual friend and that is when it starts to get a little devise. His friend was just upset about his boyfriend being caught so he needed someone to cry on and Charlie was there for him.

I still feel as though Charlie hasn't found out who he is and the book didn't answer that in the end either. But I feel as though this book would be one of those books that you have to re-read and you'll get different clues from it each time about how he is changing and you have to make sure you pay very close attention to it!

Prompts!

Prompt one:
Imagination

The mind drifts off in a never ending spiral.
Barbie are suddenly alive, and taking over the world!
Being in a bath tub is like being in a
huge,
pool.
But when the barbies are put into a big black bag and taken away by the mean, disgusting, smelly truck and the
bath tub is suddenly just a
bath tub.
The next thing you know you have a 5 page essay due tomorrow about Native Americans and their life style.
All you have is "The Native Americans.." and your name on a blank page.
Where did the barbies go?
Why doesn't my mind drift off in the same
never
ending
spiral.

Prompt two: Loss
No name

Time has changed
from 2 yeards.
It doesn't always have to be an aspect of growing up but
for me,
it was.
It's been 2 years since they slept in the same bed.
It's been 2 years since she slept over with him, here.
Everyday I have to
pretend,
that it's still the same,
but really,
it isn't.
If it wasn't for...
ugh.
I can't even say.
I can't even write it.
I can't even write it, even if I
Know
somone won't see it.
It's not one fault.
It's both of them.
I can't help but think
if the past years were fake
and when the stupid comments were made
now I
Know
they were true.
Everything was a
lie.

Draft The perks of being a wallflower

(Not completely finished still needs some work)
Olivia's ELA response.

In the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower the issues that are dealt with a boy known as Charlie is figuring out who you truly are and not being ashamed of it.

In my book The Perks Of Being a Wallflower, is about a boy who is 16, writing in depth letters explaining what goes on in his life to an anonymous person. He isn't only writing to a person that is anonymous he is also keeping himself and his friends under cover with fake names. These letters are basically his diary but you never know if he actually sends the letters that he writes. He might even be writing to himself. He says everything and anything in these letters to help his feelings and he doesn't want anyone to figure out who he is in these letters. He's a boy with friends but doesn't tell them things that really bother him and how he actually feels. At some points he is feminine and I actually think he is gay but then I remember he is in love with this girl that doesn't love him back in the same way but more in a friend way. You can tell by the first page that he doesn't know or like who he is because he keeps everything undercover.

When I am reading the book I always wonder why is writing to an anonymous person and why he keeps himself anonymous. Well I have 2 thoughts about that. One I think it is because it is the way the author wants you to think and its the authors writing style, just for you to really focus on the story and not much on the characters. He does give fake names and makes you think thats the actual names but then you remember there not and so then I think, well lets say there weren't any names in this and they weren't fake or anything there just weren't any names and so you just focused mainly on the story and what is going on. It's complicated and it's the story of a 16 year old boy growing up so you really have to capture every detail. The other reason is,  I think the character is hidden is because he is self conscience and he actually doesn't want any one to know; because not only is he hiding his name he is writing to someone that you have no idea who it is and hiding himself so he probably doesn't like who he is. In the text it says,
"Please don't try to figure out who this person is because then you might find out who I am, and I really don't want that to happen" (page 2)

The reason why I think he keeps everything undercover, who he is and who he is writing to because he doesn't know who he is either and for him to write in anonymous it's the only way he can express his feelings. I think he in unknown to the person he is writing to because he is embarrassed of himself and how he loves people and his family relationships and how he is affected by everything.

Right now in the book you can tell that he is an okay kind of relationship with his family. He had an amazing relationship with his aunt but she died when he was younger and from then on he was crushed. He's parents have always been there for him but you can tell when you're reading it, there's just something missing with their relationship. His brother is out playing football and he has on and off fights with his sister; but that's usually with a sibling.
When he's with his friends though he is a completely different person. Someone who hides himself and I don't wanna say he pretends to be someone else but sometimes I feel as he does. He has to hide that he loves this girl, when he does. Sometimes I feel he just doesn't fit in and he's new to these friends- his best friend, Michaela also just died and so know he has no one except the girl he loves, her brother and their friends.

All of the things that had happened with his friends, famiey and etc. affects him a lot; because like everyone thats how you become you. He is who he is, he hides himself because that is who he really is because his fmailey and friends made him like that. They made him so that he was always the loving boy but has his moments and also he never really talked in his family. He had only one friend until he met Patrick and Sam and they had made a change on him that probably made him a better person.

This book has been very good so far and I'm excited to keep reading to see how he will change. For my prediction I think he will find out who he is and actually stop writing the letters and tell who everyone is and find out who he truly is. I think he's friends and family will be more supportive farther in the book and also he will get the girl in the end because she knows she loves him back even though she also has a boyfriend.

Olivia's Reading Response

Final!
In my book The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, Ronnie, a teenage girl and her brother, Jonah are sent to be with their dad for the summer. Ronnie and her dad haven't talked ever since her parent’s split, her dad left with out saying anything. From that point on, Ronnie had turned into a new girl. Here Nicholas Sparks tries to show the reader that Ronnie isn’t really who she thinks she is, and she doesn’t do anything her friends do. Ronnie turns into a girl that is "bad.” She has bad grades, they dropped juristically, she has a purple streak in her hair, and hangs out with the wrong type of people.  To me, though Ronnie isn't really "bad;” she is just hiding herself from the rest of the world, with all her makeup and dark clothes. Ronnie isn't actually one of those kids who drink or smoke or do terrible things it’s just that, that’s the only way she can express herself.

One important observation that I made as soon as I started reading this book, is that you could tell Ronnie only hangs out with the wrong crowd, wears a lot of makeup and wears dark clothes because she is trying to hide herself and it is the only way she can express her anger. Ronnie is actually a smart girl that doesn’t do anything that the people she hangs out with do. I think this because,
"”Do you want me to bring you a beer?” “I don’t drink.” “Why?” Because it makes people act stupid, she could have said but she didn’t. “ (103).
This quote shows that Ronnie doesn’t drink, and she thinks drinking is stupid. This is a very important part of the book because there are parts way before this one that just shows Ronnie not drinking but this time you actually know she doesn’t drink. So once I was reading this I kind of thought to myself, isn’t this weird how every night she hangs out with these type of people but she never drinks or smokes with them, she is really above the influence. I mean these are her best friends and whom she hangs out with every night.
Another important observation is that even her dad is wondering if she will change by the end of the summer, or if she will have the same attitude she did when she first arrived then to when she is going to leave. I think this because in the book Steve says:
"Would she wake up tomorrow or leave with the same attitude she had arriving here? He did not know" (122). Well to me since I’ve seen the movie and I know what happens, this quote is fore shadowing what will happen later in the book. It shows that even the dad does believe in Ronni to change and even though he doesn’t know if Ronni will change there still is the thought that she might. Steve believes and loves Ronni even though she can be cruel to him because he knows deep down that she is just going through a tough time in her life.
This text related to the world because there are many people who aren't completely sure what they want to be, or who they are. They think their someone they're not and try to fit into the group. In some way it kind of relates to clique because you could want to be in a group but it's not who you really are you just want to be popular or in Ronnie's case hide yourself and hang out with people you’re really not.
This relates to me in the sense of clique, but not in the sense of Ronnie. Sometimes I compare myself to other people because they're more popular, have more friends, are prettier, or just they have something I want. So sometimes I could go out of my way to try to talk to them or something and I just realize I'm happy who I am and what I have and I'm me because I was supposed to be.
I think when people read this they should know that Ronnie does really change and the whole beginning of the book of her not smoking or drinking foreshadows her becoming some one she really is, and finding out who she is and what she wants. Her relationship with her dad grows into something more and she realizes that nothing with their break up had to do with her, and that she needs to be happy in her situation now.

Responses to Other Blog's

Astrid's Blog
Astrid's poems' on her blog are very interesting and unique. When I read her poem's i got a picture of what she was trying to say in my mind. I could feel the emotions, she felt while she was writing it and while i was reading it. When Astrid responds to the poems or any writing piece I like reading them because i feel like she is being really honest with them. She critics them but then also comments on them, and I always think it's good to have a double side when you write things. I like that i can agree with Astrid's writing when she is responding on a piece of art. She gives great details so it helps me achieve the thought she had.

Gabby's Blog
What I really like about Gabby's blog is that she loves to write about he passion. Most of Gabby's post are about fashion and when you write about something or someone you really love it's usually going to be one of your best poems or stories; that's why Gabby's blog really stands out to me. I think what's really funny about her blog is that if you scroll down everything that Gabby writes about if she has a choice is fashion and if it is a assignment on a specific writing piece then it's not. So you can really tell Gabby is really devoted to fashion.

Fatima's Blog
I really like Fatima's blog because like Gabby's it shows her personality. I can tell she talks about her family and the way she feels on her poems. It really stands out and I really feel for her when she writes them. I feel like Fatima's blog gives me like the chills when I read them because they're so sincere and detailed so i enjoy reading them.

Sonnet!

The rose, my rose just lies there silent; dead.
There are 5 green leaves hanging from the rose
They dance on the stem as they bleed dark red
The petals are falling from head to toe
The rose is duller, lines run up the spine
The lines strain the rose, they're powerfully curled.
Do I want this rose? I ask, yes it's mine.
The rose tries to stay away from the world
The rose has a never ending middle
It turns and twist like a unfinished tale
I see the last petal, tries to fiddle
A rose no longer red but very pale.
As i took off the last petal I froze
And realized that was the end of my rose.

My papa's Waltz

In this poem I wasn't really sure what it was about. When I first read I had a feeling that had to do with a little boy being beaten by his father, when he was drunk. The waltz's part was a metaphor of how some people say "you wanna dance" as in a fight. Or that it was a repeating pattern that the dad had when he was drunk. After I read it over and over again and really thought about what this poem meant, it didn't necessarily mean that the little boy was being beat. There was no fact or proof that this little boy was being beat, there were so many unclear lines that the author used. Anything could of meant anything, but if you think about it a lot of writers to that to their poem so that the reader thinks about their poems in a different then other people might, or they get a different intention from it. Once you start thinking about the opposite of this poem, I started to take every line by it's self, and see what they meant with both of the thoughts that I had. I think the author chose to do this because it pulls you deeper and deeper into the poem, like what happened to me. I read it over and over and over again to see which reason was more correct. Each time I read I got a different feel for it and more thoughts on what the author meant by the words he chose and his rhythm of his words.
