Research Project #1: Abuse

SIRs
In this article, they mainly talk about how if your parent had been abused you have a  higher chance of also being abused or neglected.  In 2007 1,200 kids had reported being abused or neglected, and 8 kids had died. The kids get trauma from it, and it is then hard to live their life. There was also a report to the government that there had been a lot of abuse but most of all sexual abuse from parents to their kids. It was said that most parents would abuse their kids if they were drunk or had a overdose of drugs.

Abuse Examples
In this article there is a girl explaining what her dad does to her. He shoves her and calls her name. He mostly does it when he is drunk.
It says that there are 4 types of abuse.
Physical Abuse, you can usually tell on a kid if he gets physically abused because there will usually be scares or bruises on him or her. The actions that may cause it is kicks, punches, biting, choking, pinching, shaking and more.
Another one is Sexual Abuse, its when there is any type of physical contact between an adult and anyone younger than 18. If it is between an adult to another adult it is called incest.
Emotional Abuse, is an abuse that is very hard to tell. It is when someone is overally critizes a person, to the point where they have little or no self esteem.
Neglect, is when the parent isn'g giving adequate care to a chile. Not buying the food they need, water, clothes, or medical care. When the parent also gives their chid little to no attention. Neglect doesn't mean though not giving their chile what they want, for example a t/v or phone.

Parent to parent or child to child isn't the only way to abuse someone. Abuse is also bullying, racist jokes, religion, abilities, gender, or sexual orientaion.
Realizing abuse can be hard for some kids, because if they grew up with being abused they think it's a regular lifestyle and they know what to expect. So thats what causes them to abuse their child when they grow up because they think it's right.
There is no single reason for abusion. people might think it is their fault or they deserved it but it is never that case. You never deserve to be abused. Reasons why you might be being abusive is that if your parents abuse you, you learn from that trait, or if you are filled with a lot of anger, the only way to get it out is to be abusive to other people.
Everyone can learn how to stop to be abusive. It just might take sometime.

Social Awareness #6

The beating
I'm not gay i say!
Slap
Slam
Slip
Still
Survive
The horrible Beating.
My heart is racing
fast as can be
as the boys all start laughing at me.
They hear a teacher,
they
run as fast as they can, to get away from me.
I sit there still, but the room spinning around me.
I hear a young women
"Are you ok"
But i can't answer, the blood from my nose is dripping down to my mouth, my lips feel like they can't open, i was to hurt to even start to cry.
I managed to open my mouth
the only words that came out were
"Help."

1st Social Awareness number 3

So my first person that I am going to talk about a boy named Philip Fields and he is very thoughtful. He goes everyday and every lunch to visit kids with autism, and helps out with them. he had made friendships with them and so this is an interview from him:

Can you just kind of summarize what you do, and how you help the kids, how old are they, have you made connections with them, how often do you go, how do u help out, what made you want to help them?
Philip Fields November 7 at 3:33pm Report
I go to the brooklyn autism center every day at lunch and afterschool, i work with some of the kids out of school also. I play with them, help them eat lunch, work with them, i take some of the work out of the teachers so they have more time to discover new things about the kids. i basically help with everything. i LOVE the kids, i have one kid who i always work with, he is 10 years old and i have a really strong bond with him, he's just so fun to work with. I did this through school, someone told me about it and i loved it since then (i started in the summer where i went all day 9-3)
Olivia Anastasio November 7 at 5:01pm
Did u start this year?
Philip Fields November 7 at 5:01pm Report
Yep this summer.

I thought that this was AMAZING! This is so big and mature for a kid that was 13, that he took out of his time to do this stuff. Truthfully I would never have the courage to do this, and he actually loves doing this, i find it was amazing!

Also my mom and Fatima and Kate changes the world in a little way. My mom always recycles and Fatima and Kate actaully have a recycle club in school where they collect bottles in every class room. Even though this a small way, if everyone did recycle it would make a big change!
